Units of computer with diagram

Units of computer->

A computer system is made up mainly three Units.

1- Input unit

2- system unit or processing unit

3- Output unit

Input unit ->

  This unit, which is used in transferring the data or instructions to the computer system, is called as the input unit. Also the input unit is a collection of input devices. Examples of input devices available in input unit are keyboard, mouse and microphone etc.

System unit or processing unit->

  A system unit mainly consists of the followings:

1- Central processing unit (CPU) or microprocessor.

2- memory unit with primary memory and secondary memory drives.

3- SMPS (Switch mode power supply)

4- Motherboard or pcb (Printed circuit Board).

5- Drive controller card.

6- Math Co- processor.

7- Ports.

8- Adaptor.

Central processing unit (CPU) ->

The central processing unit is regarded as the brain of the computer. The CPU provides the fundamental command and instruction environment for the computer .
    The major units of CPU are:

1- Control unit (CU)

2- Arithmetic logic unit (ALU)

3- Memory Registers

Function of different units of the CPU are as follows:

1- control unit (CU) -

Used to control the whole system at the time of processing.

2-Arithmetic logic unit (ALU) -

used for arithmetical calculation.

Memory Registers -

Used store the data when the calculation occur in ALU.

Memory unit with primary memory and secondary memory drives-

Used for storage purposes both system data and usero Data. That is it's primary memories are semiconductor memories used to store manufacturers program and system data at the time of processing to send to CPU Register. And secondary memories are used to store users Data, Application source program files and operating system source program files.

SMPS-

Acronyms / Abbreviation of switching mode power supply. SMPS  is used to provide the current to the system after purifying it with different ranges of DC current e.g. 12 Volt, 5volt & with some other ranges Normally there are two types of SMPS  are available (AT & ATX).

Drive control card-

A card a small printed circuit board with different electronics components with manufacture instruction to control any disk drive, which are to attached or to be attached in the system.

Motherboard-

Motherboard is a printed circuit Board (PCB) to which all the unit or devices are connected to perform different tasks collectively as a system.

Math Co- processor-

There are different processing chips are attached to help in the work load of CPU or processing in a better speed. There are different systems, which are available with math Co-processor for Arithmetical processing.

 Ports-

There are different ports available in the system through which different devices are to be attached to the system, e.g. parallel port, serial port, PS/2 port and USB (Universal serial Bus) Ports.

Adapter-

Printed Circuit Board that allows a computer to use peripheral devices for which it does not already have connections or circuit boards. For example a network adapter provides the physical interface (connector) and the hardware (circuit) to let a computer access the network. A network adapter is also called as an adapter card, a card, or a network adapter.

Output unit ->

This unit, which is used to provide the output or results, may be as soft copy ( in monitor) or hard copy (in printer) is called as output unit. Also the output unit is a collection output Devices.
