Classification of     digital computer ->

Digital computer has been classified into two types:

1- Purposes-wise 
2- Size-wise 

Purposes-wise 

 1- special purpose : used to perform specific task. The program or institutions set in permanently stored in such a machine, which perform a single task quickly and effectively can be used for separate purposes like weather forecasting etc.
2- Genaral purpose : used for different purposes. Numerous appreciation are loaded to different purposes that can be used for office Automation, Research, Entertainment, Commercially purposes, Education etc. 

Size-wise

1- micro Computer : Lot of changes has taken place in microprocessor architecture in these days. The introduction of multimedia, 3D animation, editing, gaming etc,  technology into a a processor for entertainment media is very popular now days. The present range of CPU included -.  Intel xeon E5205, Intel i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfleld, AMD Athlon II 240 Regor, Intel Core 2 duo T9400 etc.

Mini computer : These are multi-user system. It allows 50 to 100 users to work at a time. The mini computer offered the advantage of a mainframe computer at lower costs. Some Mini Computer named as   IBM's AS/400e, Honeywell200,  TI-990.

Mainframe computer : These are multi-user system. They are generally used in a centralized computer center. 
Different departments will be having different terminals and there are connected to the mainframe computer. Mainframe computers provide in large storage capacity and faster CPU Speed. It is not based on single chip processor. Several math and logic processor are used. It's speed is measured in nanoseconds. A maximum of users can work at a time. A few of application area's where these computers are mostly used, for engineering designs and online application with large database.

IBM System z13.
IBM z Enterprise System.
IBM System z10.
IBM System z9 etc.
 
Super computer : These are basically designed for complex scientific application processing needs. The processing speed of this computer is very high compared to mini and micro. The speed is measured in quadrillion second (10¹⁵ part of a second). It is a multi user system and 1000 times faster than a regular computer
For example : Fugaku. Fugaku was jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu.

Marconi-100.
Summit.
