Refining of metals by liquation

Liquation: 

Impure metals in the form of ingots (blocks) are placed in upper part of a slanting hearth maintained at a temperature slightly above the melting point of metals. The pure metals melts and drains away while the impurities remain behind as dross in the hearth.
