Discovery of Neon, Krypton and Xenon:
Ramsay and Traverse suspected that the argon obtained from air was not a single gas but was a mixture of several other inert gases. He subjected the liquid argon obtained from air to Fractional distillation and to there surprise they found the presence of other inert gases . The first fraction was named neon (Greek : neos =new).The rest fractions reported were Krypton (Greek: Krypton=hidden) and Xenon (Greek : Xenon = stranger).
