What is the Characteristics of solids
Characteristics of solids .
Definite shape :-
Liquid are not like solids and gas have definite shape .the particles in solid have fixed positions and they cannot move and hence they are rigid which gives the solids a definite shape .
Definite volume :-
The solids particles are closely connected due to strong intermolecular forces between them. That's
why solids have definite volumes which are independent of shape and size .
Solids are practically incompressible :-
Particles in solids are very closely connected that's why it is quite dificldif to compress . So solids are practically incompressible .
Very slow diffusion :-
The particles position in solid are more or less fixed and they cannot move from there position so solids don't diffuse like liquid and gas .
Rigidity :-
The intractinte between the solid particles try to arrange the particles in an orderly manner . So the solid particles have a fixed positions they don't take different positions that's the reason solids are Rigid .
Crystalline state :-
The particles in solids are arranged in orderly manner giving rise to crystalline state . These are truly solids as they possess crystal symmetry.
